“Recipe for the Blues is down home cooking and takes you down to the dirty Delta…”

Lady Adrena aka Adrienne Palmer is een zangeres, songwriter en gitariste, geboren in Jackson, Mississippi. Ze begint, zoals velen, op haar vijfde te zingen in het plaatselijke koor van de County Line Baptist Church in Pocahontas. In 2007 (ze is dan 27) verschijnt haar eerste single “What’s Good for the Goose”. Ze deelde ondertussen al het podium met Denise LaSalle, Anthony Hamilton, Betty Wright, The Barkays en Lakeside. Met haar single “Slay the Big Girl Way” verdedigt Lady Adrena alle vrouwen uit alle lagen van de bevolking met verschillende opleidingsachtergronden, en  etnische afkomsten: “It’s all about loving yourself. All of you!!! The good the bad and the ugly…”. In 2018 in Vicksburg, tijdens de IBC haalt ze de tweede plaats.

“Good Girl Gone Bad”, een nummer uit haar laatste ep ‘Recipe for the Blues’ (2022), nam ze op met producer Castro “Mr. Sipp” Coleman. In 2019 en 2020 volgden opname sessies met Dexter Allen, wat drie nummers opleverde: de opener “Traveling Woman”, de ballade “Borrow My Pans” en “No Ring No Thing”. Het jazzy “No Ring No Thing” werd minimalistisch gehouden door aan de begeleidende piano een kleine rol te geven. Op de ep werkte ze verder samen met Bo “Big Bo” Richardson op “Blues Chose Me” en met Gene Munns op de titelsong, die Munns ook schreef. Alle nummers werden voorzien van hedendaagse arrangementen en funky grooves. Een prima kennismaking met een voor mij tot nu toe onbekend gebleven “Lady”…
